One of the big reasons I feel the Nightwing movie is never going to happen is Batman. Why make a film about Batman’s sidekick if you can make one about the big guy. Dropping him into the start of the film would just get the non-comic reading public scratching their heads really, even if you explained it. So we take him out. Not all the way obviously, just 90% out.

We start with a young Richard Grayson (I think in today’s world with today’s audience we call the main character Dick, people are going to expect the next American Pie or something) training to be an assassin. We get the events from Robin: Year One where Dick was working with Shrike and his League of Assassins, no Two-Face though. A shadowy figure arrives and fights Shrike while Richard (who I think we’ll call Rick) fights Boone. Shrike dies.

Flash forward 10/15 years. Nightwing swinging and jumping around a city (probably have it as Bludhaven). Classic early movie stuff, stopping basic crimes. Kick off the love interest (while I feel Batman films shouldn’t have one, I think one about Dick Grayson should) question is who? I’m tempted to have both Clancy and Barbara. Outside of the costume he flirts with his land lady, while in it he’s got amazing chemistry with his information centre (Barbara could also be used as a kind of Alfred, telling him he’s doing too much, having sly jabs at him etc).

Then Dick goes out one night and is ambushed by a group of Ninjas. Just managing to beat them off he goes home and collapses in a bloody mess and gets Babs to try and find out about the ninjas. Cut to the ninjas reporting back to their master, Boone who is now Shrike.

Now Boone/Shrike has been given a bad time in the comics. Originally I believe he was invented to give Dick an equal, and in the first fight it’s one hell of a drag out bloody match with Dick nearly losing it in a bid to beat Boone. Unfortunately when Devin Grayson took over the title she gave a lot of Dick’s villains a bit of a degrade (meaning Dick could hand their ass to them without trying) and Boone was a victim of this, and in the second fight between the two he gets trounced by a hardly trying Nightwing. We’re going to go with a Boone who is a match for Nightwing, or what’s the point?

The movie carries on with Ninja’s attacking Nightwing while he runs across town trying to find out who’s behind it with Bab’s helping from behind the scenes. All culminating in one giant brawl between the hero and the bad guy.
