The UIA Universe

A gene has been discovered in a few individuals that has granted them extra abilities beyond normal man. Though most are born with these abilities it has been recorded that some activate later in life either due to an external stimulus or just age.

The first child born with an ability was taken by the American government for testing. Nobody knows what happened to the baby, though the US military is well thought to be well ahead of the rest of the world with its knowledge of abilities.

Since then the number has slowly grown though the number active in the public eye is still very small. Governments around the world have been investigating avenues to activate the gene in people born with it inactive or by technological means. One of these organisations have recently discovered that a few Powers have had the gene artificially activated with means far beyond their own comprehension.

Vane - This is the slightly altered back story for Vane. Back in 2001 when I created the character she was quite unique as she was the only female archer in a world that had the Clint Barton Hawkeye and the Green Arrow family was just Ollie (RIP), Roy and Connor. When I edited Vane at the start of 2008 we now had a female Speedy and Kate Bishop has become Hawkeye, a character I realised Vane's back story has a lot in common with so I started working on a slightly different one.
